Stack of clear custom wicketed poly bags on a wire wicket

01 · The bag

What are wicketed bags?

A wicketed bag has two small holes in its lip. The bags are stacked on a wire wicket through those holes, so each one pulls off clean and fast.

They run on high-speed automatic bagging machines, semi-automatic bag openers, or by hand. You'll also hear them called wicket bags or wicketed poly bags.

How wicketed bags are made.

07 · FAQ

Wicketed bag questions.

What are wicketed bags?

Poly bags with two small holes in the lip, stacked on a wire wicket. Each bag pulls off clean, so they load fast on automatic bagging machines, semi-automatic bag openers, or by hand.

What's the difference between wicket bags and wicketed bags?

Nothing. Wicket bags, wicketed bags and wicketed poly bags are names for the same thing: bags stacked on a wire wicket for fast loading.

What sizes do you make?

Made to your spec: bag size, gauge, wicket size and hole spacing. Send us your current bag or your machine's specs and we'll match it.

What's the minimum order?

It depends on size, film and print. Ask us and we'll give you a straight answer with your quote.

How long does it take?

Typical lead time is 3–4 weeks. Everything is made in house in Brooklyn, NY.

Do you make printed wicketed poly bags?

Yes. Custom printed wicketed poly bags, flexo printed up to 8 colors on clear, white or metallized PE and PP film, then converted in house.

What industries use wicketed bags?

Bakeries, pita and tortilla makers, produce packers, frozen food and ice, apparel and T-shirt companies, candy and snacks, retail, hardware and industrial parts.

Can you print my logo on wicketed bags?

Yes. Flexo printing up to 8 colors, or plain bags with no print.

What films can I choose?

Clear, white and metallized films, in PE and PP. Add coatings like Anti-Fog, UV Resistant, Cold Seal or Anti-Static.

Are your bags food safe?

We use FDA-compliant films for food contact: bread, produce, frozen food, ice, candy and snacks.

Can you add vent holes, gussets or a header?

Yes: vent holes, gussets, a lip or flap, a header, and zippers added in house.

How do wicketed bags work?

The bags are stacked on a bent wire wicket that runs through two holes in each bag's lip. On a bagger, air blows the top bag open, the product goes in, and the filled bag tears off the wicket along a perforation, leaving the lip on the wire. The next bag is ready right behind it.

What is a wicket, and which one do I need?

A wicket is the bent wire, usually U-shaped, that holds the stack together through the wicket holes. The wire, the hole size and the spacing between the holes have to match your bagging machine or bag opener. Send us your current bag or your machine's specs and we'll match them.

What are wicket washers?

Washers slide onto the wicket wire in front of and behind the stack. They hold the bags snug so they don't slip or tear off the wire before they're used. Tell us what your line runs and we'll match the stack to it.

What's the difference between a lip, a flap and a header?

The lip is the strip above the bag opening that carries the wicket holes, and it stays on the wicket when the bag tears off. A flap folds over the opening to close the bag. A header is a clean strip at the top of the bag for hanging or for branding.

What gauge should my wicketed bags be?

Gauge is film thickness, measured in mil. Most wicketed bags run between about 0.5 and 3 mil: thinner for bread and produce, heavier for ice, frozen food and heavier products. Send your current bag and we'll match it, or ask and we'll suggest one.

Flat or gusseted wicketed bags?

Flat bags work for most products. A side gusset or bottom gusset adds depth, so loaves, rolls and boxed or bulky items fit and stand better. We make all three.

How do I order custom wicketed bags?

Fill in the quote form above, or email quote@wicketedbags.com with your bag size, quantity, product, film, structure and gauge. A sample of your current bag helps us match it exactly. We send your quote, you approve, and typical lead time is 3–4 weeks.

Who makes your wicketed bags?

We do, in Brooklyn, NY, with 60+ years of making flexible packaging. Printing, bag making and wicketing all happen in house under one roof.
